This class has developed my writing more than I could have imagined. I can not only confidently say that I am a much better writer, but I also enjoy writing so much more. I used to think writing came just in the form of essays and papers, but this English class has allowed me to write in many different forms such as blogs, a review of literature, and even an infographic. This multimedia type of writing opened my eyes to a different type of writing, a one I enjoy a lot more.
This class focuses on a project that is a website on a topic of your choosing. I chose the topic of American born Chinese students; picking this topic allowed for me to write about something I was not only passionate about but a topic that hit very close to home to me. Freely writing about something that related so much to me made me learn a lot about myself that I didn’t even remember. When I was writing my blogs, it felt so relaxing and satisfying to talk about my life. I didn’t feel the sense of dread and misery as I usually do when writing papers. While writing papers for most other classes, I wouldn’t find a sense of passion that I feel when I write for my project in this class. Don’t get me wrong, I find interest in almost everything I write about, but to find passion and emotional ties to the topic is something that is uncommon for me.
A review of literature was something that I had never done in any of my other classes. It was definitely challenging to write at first, but as I started writing about it I learned so much more from these sources than I would have if I didn’t write the review of literature. From these sources I gathered information about experiences from other people like me and their emotions and stories. Of course this was a very personal project to me, but being able to combine my experiences with other people’s experiences created a much more compelling story than I could’ve imagined. Overall, this class not only has pushed me to become a better writer but it has also pushed me to learn more about myself as a person.
